Button Fastener keeps Tom looking sharp!

For people with impaired hand function, it is often the simple, everyday actions we take for granted that pose the most challenge. Like buttoning up a shirt.

Enter, the Fixperts! This social project aims to share knowledge and help fix everyday problems across the globe. They say:

Fixperts is about promoting creative and social values through design. Communicators and designers work together to create projects that demonstrate the use of imagination and skills through fixing. Fixing projects are captured in mini documentaries introducing the people and the story of the process.

In this video, a group of students at NCAD (National College of Art & Design) in Ireland - show how they designed, prototyped, and produced a really effective Button Fastener for their client Tom, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis.

A fixperts project for NCAD Ireland. We designed and developed a product to help Tom who has rheumatoid arthritis and finds his buttons difficult to fasten. Created by Aaron Nooney, Marie Kelly, Aidan Judd and Ally Morehead

We think this was a fantastic fix and an excellent tool for Tom. Congrats to the students and we look forward to seeing what else the Fixperts come up with!

What actions or functions do you or your clients find challenging? Do you have any gadgets, tips or workarounds that help?

You can follow the Fixperts activities on Facebook or Twitter.
