Tek RMD Accessories - The Transfer Seat
Along with the electric lifter version, there are now two major accessories for the Tek RMD. These are the Transfer Seat and the Outdoor Wheels Kit. In this article we review the Transfer Seat.
Transferring to the Tek RMD meant that the user needed to get on the product from the back. This was not always possible with some wheelchair designs. The Transfer Seat allows a user to approach the Tek RMD more from the side - sometimes hopping across or sometimes with the aid of a transfer board.
Electrotherapy and wound healing - Part 1
Electrotherapy might seem an unlikely approach to use in healing pressure ulcers or chronic wounds of all types. However, it’s long been recognised that humans are “bioelectric” and there is such a thing as a “skin battery” that can be disrupted by wounds. In this short series we look at what we know of wound healing with electrotherapy. In this first article we introduce the topic and set the scene for the second article which looks at protocols and contraindications.
Rehab & Training - Part 3 Recovery
In these articles, we have looked at strength and conditioning training to see if this more familiar territory might give us a structure with which we might approach training for neurorehabilitation. In this final article we have introduced the important of rest and recovery. The best results from training are achieved when there is an optimal balance between the training dose and rest and recovery. This has many unknowns but we can rely on the vital importance of sleep hygene, nutritional status and maintaining. as far as possible, low levels of negative stress.
Rehab & Training Part 2 - The Dose
In this article, we explore the second most important training principle from strength and conditioning which considers the “Dose” of training - in other words the Volume, Intensity and Frequency of training. We look at how these factors relate to neurorehabilitation and learning.
Rehab & Training Part 1 - The Importance of Adherence.
Neuroplasticity and neurogenesis are topics that inspire hope of recovery for many following a neurological condition. How do we bring hope into reality? Forms of movement, technology, and frequent, intensive exercise promise to assist recovery even if goal setting remains a challenge. This article looks at all of this as another form of training and suggests that adherence to a programme must be fundamental to success.
Living with the Tek RMD
The Tek RMD is a unique product to help persons with leg paralysis or difficulty to stand and move. Some clients have found this really life-changing but of course not everyone will be able to use this product. In this article we are looking at the Tek RMD from Matia Mobility - what it is, who it is for and some aspects of living with the product.
